DOG HOUSE PROPERTIES LAUNCHES NEW PET PRODUCT
New, Stylish Crate Covers Make Metal Dog Crates Attractive
CHARLESTON, SC – Locally based Dog House Properties, LLC launches a pet product to make metal dog crates attractive and compliment the interior design of most homes. In addition, the product reduces anxiety, barking, and stress during crate training, while making the crate aesthetically pleasing in the home.
Dog House Properties LLC, who also owns www.DogHouseProperties.com, has developed Doghouse Covers; stylish crate covers for metal dog crates inspired from the most popular colors and patterns found in major home design magazines.
Research shows crates (also known as kennels) are an effective way to assist with dog training, serve as a safe haven for the pet at home or when traveling, and also prevent or rectify problems associated with destructive behavior. By nature, dogs are “den” animals and covering a crate can alleviate anxiety, barking, and stress during the early training years. As a result, pet owners initially purchase metal crates to train dogs, and do not realize that dogs build an attachment to their crate. Allowing a dog to maintain its crate throughout its entire life can help a pet live a longer, happier life.
Creator behind Doghouse Covers Rebecca Suarez says, “We realize the benefits of covering a dog crate, but often ignore how it can detract from even the most professionally designed homes. Many pet owners spend a lot of money on the look and design of their home. Doghouse Covers were developed as an attractive and affordable way to transform the training crate into a long-term stylish bedroom for your dog, in addition to matching the décor of most homes.”
Doghouse Covers will be available in 3 different styles and are easily machine washable. The covers will fit dog crates from 22”-49”in Length and fit the majority of dog crates on the market including Midwest, Precision, Four Paws, Petmate, and more. Suarez adds, “Our crate cover serves many purposes. It can assist Real Estate Agents in covering chunky dog crates during showings, hide crates while entertaining guests during parties, double as a coffee or end table, and yet, still provide a comforting space for the family dog.”
Doghouse Covers has enlisted Nexsen Pruet Adams Kleemeier, LLC in Charleston, SC to prepare and file the design patent. The patent is currently pending. Suarez says, “What makes our crate cover unique is the ability to easily roll up and tie off any side of the cover when the dog is inside the crate. When entertaining, you can roll all sides of the cover completely down and zip it up so the metal crate is out of sight. Most importantly, the 3 different styles compliment sophisticated or everyday home decor.”
Beginning early December, the dog crate covers can be purchased online at www.doghousecovers.com or locally at Three Dog Bakery downtown (430 King St. Charleston, SC 29403). The covers will retail from $36.00-$69.99 and will come in 6 different sizes, ranging from XS-XXL.
In addition, any purchases made on www.doghousecovers.com by November 25, 2007 can receive 10% off by entering coupon Launch2007 during checkout. The covers will ship in time for Christmas.
Dustin Guthrie, owner of Three Dog Bakery, says “Until now, pet owners have not had an appealing option for covering metal crates. It’s time to take the old blankets and towels off your dog’s crate and cover it with one of these classic styles. With the Holidays right around the corner, Doghouse Covers will make great gifts for any pet owner.”

Dogs have an amazing ability to rehabilitate people. Not only do they positively affect people with disabilities and help during terminal illness, they now help rehabilitate inmates in prison.
Tennessee is now incorporating dog in their rehabilitation program for inmates by implementing a new state prison system program called A New Leash on Life. Inmates spend about eight weeks teaching dogs basic obedience so that the dogs will be more adoptable.
Rocky Mount Telegram recently reported on the program. Darrell Jones, a case manager at Nash Correctional, runs the program, and he calls it a win-win for both the dogs and the inmates. The program is designed to not only promote social well-being for the prisoners, but also to make the pups more attractive to those looking for pets. The dogs are taught basic commands and walking on and off the leash, talents that not many shelter dogs have, Jones said. Several inmates were interviewed about the New Leash on Life program and many reported that working with dogs gives them more self-esteem, makes them feel appreciated, teaches them responsibility and establishes prestige within the inmates (the inmates have to undergo strict screening guidelines to be eligible to participate in the program).
Other states like Texas are also including dogs in their rehabilitation programs. Their program is called Paws in Prison, and is very similar to Tennessee's program. The Paws in Prison program held their first graduation ceremony in August; 5 of the 6 dogs have been adopted. Best of all, there has been a 63% drop in inmate disciplinary incidents since the program's implementation!

LONDON (AP) — Bow wow, and take a bow: The furry and famous of the silver screen are being honored with their own walk of fame in London.
The first inductees will be six dogs chosen by public vote from a shortlist that includes Lassie, Toto of "The Wizard of Oz," cartoon superdog Gromit and Tintin's trusty companion, Snowy, organizers said Thursday.
The winners, announced Nov. 5, will receive a permanent plaque in Battersea Park, south London. The nearby Battersea Dogs Home is Britain's largest and best-known home for abandoned dogs.
The walk of fame is sponsored by the Kennel Club and television channel Sky Movies.
"To immortalize these dogs within Battersea Park, a place intrinsically linked to dogs itself, is very important to the Kennel Club and promotes the importance of dogs within our lives," said Kennel Club Secretary Caroline Kisko.
Later this month, doggie stars will be honored at the first-ever Fido awards, billed as the canine equivalent of the Academy Awards. Among the leading contenders are five corgis who starred alongside Oscar winner Helen Mirren in "The Queen."

I recently came across this article about a woman who does Yoga with her dog. Suzi appears to be a pioneer in Doga, as a Google search for the term only really shows her website. Curious what Doga stands for: Yoga + Dog = Doga. If you enjoy Yoga and exercising with your dog, this might be what you are looking for.
