According to PetHobbysist.com & Itchmo.com, UC Davis has found Melamine in dog food that is not on the recall list. If you are feeding your dog Nutra Nuggets brand food, especially purchased from Costco in the California area - STOP TODAY!
After 4 dogs fell ill from buying Nutra Nuggets brand food from the Visalia Costco in mid-April, veterinarians began asking questions on the dogs' diet. It all linked back to this particular retailer and Nutra Nuggets brand food associated with Premium Edge Pet Foods and manufactured by the infamous Diamond Pet Foods.
Updates on the food in question can be found at itchmo.com.

I came across this article on AOL this morning, written by the Associated Press.
It's a dog's life for three newborn tiger triplets in eastern China.
The cubs, whom officials at the Jinan Paomaling Wild Animal World in Shandong province are so far just calling "One," "Two" and "Three," have been nursed by a dog since they were rejected by their tiger mother shortly after birth, said Paomaling manager Chen Yucai.
The trio's adoptive mother, a mixed breed farm dog called "Huani," is expected to nurse them for about a month or until their appetites outpace her supply, Chen said.
Chen said it is common for Chinese zoos to use surrogate dog mothers to nurse rejected tiger cubs and that Huani has nursed tigers before.
In the past, Paomaling put dog urine on their rejected cub's fur to make the surrogate think she was nursing one of her own puppies but the zoo didn't bother with Huani because she seemed not to mind nursing the tigers, he said. "The family is getting along well and seems to enjoy each other," Chen said. Also, of the 43,000+ people who took an AOL survey, 98% thought this dog nursing 3 tiger pups was pretty "cool." Dogs really are amazing breeds!

Did you know that you can enjoy summer camp with your dog? Camp Gone to the Dogs, in Vermont and California, is a camp for both canines and their human companions to enjoy together.
Their camp motto: Tails Up!
If your dog's tail isn't up, we're doing something wrong.
FUN is the name of the game. Linda Lombardi from the Associated Press recently wrote an article on Camp Gone to the Dogs:
We have people call and say, “We’re going away for a week, can we drop off our dog?” says Lory Kohlmoos, director of Camp Winnaribbun on Lake Tahoe in California.
The answer is no - no more than you’d go to tennis camp and drop off your racket and leave. These camps are geared toward both relaxation and education, and it takes both dog and dog owner to make it work.
“The person who comes to camp wants to be with their dog on vacation. It’s more fun to be away with their dog than without their dog,” says Jeanne Richter, director of Camp Gone to the Dogs, which holds sessions in Stowe and Marlboro, Vt. “It’s meant for you to have a great bonding experience with your pet.”
Sessions for this summer are just filling up. For around $1,000 to $1,425, depending on your accommodations, you and your pooch can have the week of your lives, the camps promise. Sounds like an amazing experience to enjoy with your pet - hiking, swimming, training, crafts...the list goes on and on!

Cody, Havana, and I recently traveled to Miami for vacation, and found Florida to have an abundance of pet friendly outdoor dining. Our favorite was Green Street Cafe located in the heart of Coconut Grove. The restaurant boasts sidewalk style dining with a large outdoor seating area which encourages pet friendly dining. On this particular day, there was a line of pet owners around the hostess stand waiting to enjoy bruch outside with their dogs. Not only was the atmosphere relaxing and casual for lunch, the food was delicious.
According to DogFriendly.com, if you do choose to enjoy a meal at a pet friendly restaurant, make sure to follow these Etiquette Tips for Dogs at Outdoor Restaurants: - Make sure your pooch is well-behaved around other people and especially children.
- Leash your four-legged friend and keep him or her from socializing with other diners or employees, unless welcomed.
- Try to keep your dog close to your table or chair so he or she is not in the waiter's path. Dogs are not allowed on the chairs or tables.
- Bring your own doggie bowl or ask the waiter for a paper or plastic bowl or cup for water if necessary. Pets are not permitted to eat or drink out of restaurant glasses or dishes, unless they are disposable.
- Remember to tie your dog to your chair and not a table. A dog tied to a table can result in spilled drinks or food if he or she is strong enough to make the table move.
- Always call ahead or ask first to make sure an establishment allow dogs at their outdoor tables.
Green Street Cafe is one of many pet friendly restaurants in Florida, according to TripsWithPets.com. Recent Florida legislation makes it one of the most pet friendly states when dining with your dog. But, remember to always call ahead and make sure the restaurant still has a pet friendly policy.

If you are a property owner and are considering renting your property to a potential renter, please make sure you visit www.completelandlord.com. I recently signed up for a free account and download the "Rental Property Management Secrets for Landlords" ebook, created by Scott Brueggeman. Not only is the ebook free, it also contains a very comprehensive guide on being a landlord. He gathered a great team of experts and compiled the most important information on renting a property -- from showing your property to managing day-to-day operations.
While the ebook did not contain very much information on renting to pet owners, it still is a valuable tool for anyone considering renting out a piece of property.

The summer months are known to be the peak "moving" season. With moving season upon us, I would like to repost some steps on making the move easier on your pet.
In just a few easy steps, you can pack up with your pet and move to your new home in no time!- Search for your next pet friendly apartment on DogHouseProperties.com. If your landlord requests a meeting with your pet, make sure the pet is groomed and walked prior to the meeting (kind of like showered and shaved for humans).
- Research the area you are looking to move to... Is it pet friendly? Are any dog parks nearby? Where is the closest vets office? Make proper travel arrangements based on your form of travel.
- Compile a pet resume, which includes a photo, a description of their behavior, and any training the pet has undergone.
- Obtain letters of reference from neighbors, previous landlords, veterinarians, and even pet sitters.
- Visit your current veterinarian to make sure your pet is current on all their required shots and licenses.
- On the day of the move make sure your pet is as comfortable as possible, as they are sensitive to change. Make sure their food, water, and favorites toys are readily available. Have your pet wear a collar with an ID Tag containing your name and phone number. Gather the pet's bed and leash & follow the pet's routine, such as feedings and walks, as normal as possible.
- You are done! Introduce your pet to their new surroundings. Keep in mind it may take a while before the pet is comfortable with the new change.
The key to having a successful move with your pet, is to plan ahead. Visit the Humane Society of the United States' website for more information, rentwithpets.org.

I know pet friendly housing can be difficult to find, but New York is probably the most difficult city. While there are over 90 pet friendly buildings in New York City, many buildings have co-op and condo boards that place restrictions on breeds, size, and behavior. According to a recent article by The New York Times, the majority of board managers conduct pet interviews on the pets, especially dogs. Which means, if your dog barks at the sound of a door bell, or weighs over 20 pounds, the dog will probably be rejected as a possible tenant. If you live in New York City and are looking for pet friendly housing, remember to prepare for a pet interview prior to placing an offer on a property (or, signing a lease).
Pet-a-Holics is a great resource for pet owners in the New York area. Their website also lists all pet friendly buildings in the area & pet friendly hotels (just in case you are displaced for a while looking for a long-term rental).
