Cody & Havana's Tails
Everyday living with dogs

A Netherlands pet store owner, Gerrie Berenden, has created a beer for dogs.
After an annual hunting trip in Australia, Gerrie felt that dogs deserved the right to have a cold one after a long day. The beer is non-alcoholic and is brewed from beef extract and malt. At $2.15 a bottle — which is 4x the price of Heinkeken in the Netherlands — the owner says it is also tasty for humans. She commissioned a small local brewery named Schelde to brew the beer.
Kwispelbier, marketed as "a beer for your best friend", is sure to get your dogs tail waggin'!

P.S. "Kwispel" is dutch for wagging a tail! Cody & Havana say, ohhh yummie!

Since our launch January 1, 2006, doghouseproperties.com has grow tremendously!
I started the website in my spare time, building the foundation for a solid company that will allow renters to search for pet friendly apartments. Using a minimal monthly marketing budget, the website grew from ZERO listings to over a hundred in one year. Once pet friendly landlords began to showcase their listings on the website, registered users began to follow. We now have several hundred registered landlords and renters on doghouseproperties.com, and plan to grow even more this year!
We experimented a lot in 2006, trying to figure out the best route to spend our advertising dollars and acquire new users. How should we spend our money? How do we get more users? What is the best and fastest way to grow nationwide? And many more questions were proposed and worked through. At the end of the day, our ultimate goal became clear: we want to become the primary website for pet friendly rental properties for both long term rentals & vacation rentals. In order to do that we focus on keeping our costs low so we can offer landlords the opportunity to list their property on the website for free.
After several local tradeshows in South Carolina and feedback from our registered users, we realized there was also a need for pet friendly vacation properties. Working closely with Nuvay, our website site designers, we integrated an advanced search feature which allows users to search for just vacation rental properties. With a few short months of adding the vacation rental feature, listings in states like Colorado & California were added!
2006 also saw the launch of our Myspace.com page located at www.myspace.com/doghouseproperties. Cody & Havana love having a page dedicated to them. After all, Cody was our inspiration behind the company! Make sure to link to us if you have a page on Myspace! In Fall 2006, we began writing a blog — Cody & Havana's Tails which focuses on everyday living with dogs. We blog about anything and everything, including pet products & news headlines, landlord resources, and updates on doghousproperties.com!
In addition, we gained several advertisers, such as Doctors Foster & Smith, Dirt Devil, 1-800-PET MEDS, and more. They have been instrumental in the growth of the company, and to the future success of the website. Please support our advertisers by clicking on their advertisements from our website and buying their products.
With over 320,000 hits to the site in 2006...where do we go from here?
2007 promises to be a year of growth. If you believe in us, show us by registering for a landlord, tenant, or advertiser account!
To our landlords, thanks for being pet-friendly. To our renters, remember to be a responsible pet owner. We look forward to many things in 2007, remember to visit us often and support our advertisers!
Woof!

With homes sales at record levels in recent years, the rental housing market has been out of the spot light when discussing the housing market. According to David Berson, Vice President and Chief Economist of Fannie Mae, the housing boom created a large shift away from renting toward home ownership. However, homeownership rates have recently slipped due to rising interest rates and other economic factors, which have pushed up rental vacancy rates on properties to all-time highs.
The US Census Bureau reports the National Vacancy rate is at 9.6% for all rental units (as of 7/28/06), with the largest vacancy rate of 11.1% in the South. As a result, investment property owners are looking for new methods to rent their property.
Increasingly, private rental & vacation property owners are turning towards the Internet to decrease their vacancy rates. Moreover, they are considering renting to pet owners, who account for 1 out of every 2 renters! Websites such as doghouseproperties.com cater to this niche market by showcasing only pet friendly rentals, and do not charge property owners a fee to post their listing. As a result, many property owners have been able to make capital improvements to their properties with the cost savings from advertising.
