Do you love wine? How about Dogs? Well, a new trend is sweeping California's Wine Country - Wine Dogs! Nick Stephens, author of Bordeaux Undiscovered blog, says dogs are as common a sight on vineyards as grapes. Dogs are used to track and control pests which may cause damage to prime grape growing areas. A dog's keen sense of smell can track vine mealybug which turns vine and grape cluster into a sticky mess. I'm glad they are protecting our valuable wine country!
If you plan on traveling with your dog in Wine Country, there are many pet friendly accomodations and activities. Here are just a few pet friendly resources to get you started for areas in California's wine country:
Napa Valley.
Healdsburg
Sonoma Valley
Russian River Valley
Also, when in California's wine country (or at home) do not allow your dog to eat grapes (or raisins). Grapes and raisins can be lethal to a dog and cause renal failure syndrome. Although dogs are becoming more popular on vineyards, trust me when I say dogs will not enjoy grapes the same way we do. Enjoy your trip with your Wine Dog!

Post a CommentHi Cody & Havana,
Thanks for mentioning my blog on Wine Dogs!! I think it is a great idea that you are offering dog friendly properties so that people can take their pets with them.
It's hard to do that here in the UK but it is steadily growing in popularity. We always try to find a place that will let our pooches come with us - trouble is they are growing in number (we have 2 new Hound pups so we are up to 6 now!)
Keep up the good work!
Cheers
Nick
