PET FRIENDLY RENTAL WEBSITE RESPONDS TO FORECLOSURE CRISIS WITH ENHANCEMENTS
Former Sub-Prime Mortgage Lender Compiles Pet Friendly Rentals on Beta Website: DogHouseProperties.com
Charleston, SC - Locally based Dog House Properties LLC has re-launched DogHouseProperties.com as a Beta website. With an aim to alleviate the current rental housing strain on individuals and families with pets, the Beta site will aggregate pet friendly rental listings onto DogHouseProperties.com utilizing additional online resources.
Since January 2006, DogHouseProperties.com has operated as an internet based search engine showcasing only pet friendly rental property listings (including vacation, long-term, and apartment complex listings). Now, as DogHouseProperties.com enters the initial stages of their Beta website, they will also combine and integrate pet friendly rental listings from larger search engines - such as Google Base - and data feeds from property management and real estate companies.
President and Founder Rebecca Suarez says, "As a former sub-prime mortgage lender, my heart goes out to those individuals and families who can no longer afford their homes. As more families lose their home to foreclosure, they are realizing an unimaginable strain of finding pet friendly rental housing. The goal of our Beta re-launch is to compile pet friendly housing information into one resource, aiming to reduce family pet surrenders to animal shelters and abandonment of the pet altogether. Ultimately, re-branding our website and integrating pet friendly rental listings from other online resources will allow DogHouseProperties.com to become the primary website for pet friendly housing searches."
DogHouseProperties.com expects the site to be in Beta for at least 1 year. Additionally, users can expect the release of several features during the Beta stage:- Integration of 10,000+ pet friendly vacation and long-term rental listings
- Easily searchable listings using Google maps
- Ability to store searches for future reference
- Property Owners/Managers can personalize a listing's url
- Tools to create Pet Resumes, and much more
Suarez adds, "Right now, we urge all individual landlords, property owners/managers, and Apartment Complexes to unite and assist in the pet overpopulation in shelters. The simplest thing they can do is add their vacant pet friendly properties onto the site. This alone could help thousands of pet owners from leaving their pet behind."
The website will remain FREE for ALL users, including people seeking rentals, as well as property owners/managers and large apartment complexes adding listings to the site. Property Management and Real Estate companies with 15 pet friendly properties or more can contact DogHouseProperties.com to provide a data feed for inclusion at no charge. In addition, individual property owners can continue to utilize the site to add their vacation and long-term rentals.
About Dog House Properties, LLC: Dog House Properties, LLC owns DogHouseProperties.com and DogHouse Covers. The website launched January 2006 and offers property owners the ability to list their rental properties at no charge. COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A company that made contaminated pet food that killed dozens of dogs nationwide will pay $3.1 million in a settlement with pet owners, an attorney said Friday.
The pet food, which contained a mold called aflatoxin, was produced at Diamond Pet Foods' plant in South Carolina. The company will set up a fund to reimburse pet owners for the loss of their dog, veterinarian bills and the cost of any unreturned contaminated food, said attorney Jim Andrews, who represented a Knoxville, Tenn., family that sued the company.
Diamond Pet Foods, based in Meta, Mo., acknowledged that workers at its Gaston, S.C., plant failed to follow internal testing procedures to ensure its products were safe. The company made the acknowledgment after the Food and Drug Administration released a report showing the company has no record of test results for 12 shipments of corn in 2005, when grain tainted with the deadly fungus slipped into the plant.
The company contends it did nothing illegal, according to the settlement. Mark Schell, Diamond's assistant general manager, did not immediately return a telephone message.
Aflatoxin, a naturally occurring chemical that comes from a fungus sometimes found on corn and in other crops, can cause severe liver damage.
The contaminated pet food was sold in 23 states. Diamond recalled about 20 varieties of dog and cat food when a New York veterinarian said in December 2005 that she had linked a dog's death to the company's food.
The 2005 recall is unrelated to the contamination problem that prompted recalls of more than 100 pet-food brands in early 2006. In that case, investigators traced pet deaths to a toxic chemical, melamine, that had been added during manufacturing in China.

Where has time gone? I recently noticed that I haven't blogged about anything since announcing the release of DogHouse Covers in early November! November pretty much flew by as we focused on promoting our newest creation, designer slipcovers for dog crates.
However, this December has been dedicated to taking care of Cody. Cody, for those of you that don't know, is the single reason DogHouseProperties.com exists. Having relocated to California from the East Coast, we had a very difficult time find a pet friendly rental with him (our wonderful, gentle 85 lbs Labrador). Cody helped us realize that pet owners deserve a resource dedicated solely to them.
On December 5th, we noticed that Cody wasn't acting like his cool, calm and collected self. Watching his behavior, we assumed he had a seizue and rushed him to the emergency vet's office. A few tests revealed Cody's spleen ruptured due to a tumor. He was experiencing internal bleeding and was kept overnight for monitoring. The following day, Cody underwent surgery and had his spleen and the tumor removed.
The doctor informed us a week later that Cody's tumor is in fact malignant. Cody, our beloved 7 year old Lab, is living with Hemangiosarcoma - a highly malignant form of cancer. While our doctor removed the tumor, it is expected to spread into other major organs in the near future.
Dogs that live with Hemangiosarcoma have a short life span after diagnosis, usually up to 1 year. The news has been devastating, but we know we have given Cody the best life we could possibly give him. From spending his days at Three Dog Bakery with his dad...to having DogHouseProperties.com built in his honor. We love Cody and cherish every waking moment with him that we can. Cody has had a speedy recovery after surgery and is doing well given the circumstances.
Please enjoy this holiday season and remember to tell your dog (or cat) that you love them!

As a former mortgage lender, I saw the mortgage bubble at its peak. Homeowners put everything on the line in order to have a piece of the American dream. However, some did not make the most informed decision and placed themselves in risky mortgages. Now, millions of homeowners are expected to hit foreclosure in the next year.
With an oversupply of homes on the market, finding a buyer to bail you out is going to be a gruesome task. Instead of looking for a quick sale, consider keeping your property as a rental. Even better, consider renting your property to a pet owner. Not renting to pet owners could be costing you money, as nearly 1 out of every 2 renters is a pet owner.
There are many benefits of renting to a pet owner: * Pet Owners are used to paying a higher security deposit to keep their pet * Higher Occupancy - pet owners stay longer in pet friendly housing * Free resource to list pet friendly rentals on DogHouseProperties.com * and much more!
If you are one of the millions of property owners facing foreclosure...make sure you explore every option available. That includes renting to pet owners. Your credit score will thank you for it.

DOG HOUSE PROPERTIES LAUNCHES NEW PET PRODUCT
New, Stylish Crate Covers Make Metal Dog Crates Attractive
CHARLESTON, SC – Locally based Dog House Properties, LLC launches a pet product to make metal dog crates attractive and compliment the interior design of most homes. In addition, the product reduces anxiety, barking, and stress during crate training, while making the crate aesthetically pleasing in the home.
Dog House Properties LLC, who also owns www.DogHouseProperties.com, has developed Doghouse Covers; stylish crate covers for metal dog crates inspired from the most popular colors and patterns found in major home design magazines.
Research shows crates (also known as kennels) are an effective way to assist with dog training, serve as a safe haven for the pet at home or when traveling, and also prevent or rectify problems associated with destructive behavior. By nature, dogs are “den” animals and covering a crate can alleviate anxiety, barking, and stress during the early training years. As a result, pet owners initially purchase metal crates to train dogs, and do not realize that dogs build an attachment to their crate. Allowing a dog to maintain its crate throughout its entire life can help a pet live a longer, happier life.
Creator behind Doghouse Covers Rebecca Suarez says, “We realize the benefits of covering a dog crate, but often ignore how it can detract from even the most professionally designed homes. Many pet owners spend a lot of money on the look and design of their home. Doghouse Covers were developed as an attractive and affordable way to transform the training crate into a long-term stylish bedroom for your dog, in addition to matching the décor of most homes.”
Doghouse Covers will be available in 3 different styles and are easily machine washable. The covers will fit dog crates from 22”-49”in Length and fit the majority of dog crates on the market including Midwest, Precision, Four Paws, Petmate, and more. Suarez adds, “Our crate cover serves many purposes. It can assist Real Estate Agents in covering chunky dog crates during showings, hide crates while entertaining guests during parties, double as a coffee or end table, and yet, still provide a comforting space for the family dog.”
Doghouse Covers has enlisted Nexsen Pruet Adams Kleemeier, LLC in Charleston, SC to prepare and file the design patent. The patent is currently pending. Suarez says, “What makes our crate cover unique is the ability to easily roll up and tie off any side of the cover when the dog is inside the crate. When entertaining, you can roll all sides of the cover completely down and zip it up so the metal crate is out of sight. Most importantly, the 3 different styles compliment sophisticated or everyday home decor.”
Beginning early December, the dog crate covers can be purchased online at www.doghousecovers.com or locally at Three Dog Bakery downtown (430 King St. Charleston, SC 29403). The covers will retail from $36.00-$69.99 and will come in 6 different sizes, ranging from XS-XXL.
In addition, any purchases made on www.doghousecovers.com by November 25, 2007 can receive 10% off by entering coupon Launch2007 during checkout. The covers will ship in time for Christmas.
Dustin Guthrie, owner of Three Dog Bakery, says “Until now, pet owners have not had an appealing option for covering metal crates. It’s time to take the old blankets and towels off your dog’s crate and cover it with one of these classic styles. With the Holidays right around the corner, Doghouse Covers will make great gifts for any pet owner.”
