About Us

After a work related relocation took us from South Carolina to California, we had the hardest time finding a place to live with our 85 lbs male dog, Cody. Most landlords we encountered said "NO PETS ALLOWED" or he is "just too big." We couldn't understand how Cody, a loveable, gentle, and well-mannered labrador retriever was causing such a headache. Leaving Cody at a shelter was NOT AN OPTION — he is part of our family!

After cold calling for several days, we finally found a pet friendly landlord! A few months later, we were relocating back to Charleston, SC with one thing on our mind — how are we going to find another place to live? We thought wouldn't it be great if there was a resource that lists just friendly apartments!

DOGHOUSEPROPERTIES.COM was born. Little did we know, finding a pet-friendly place to live is a common problem among renters all across the United States. With some research and a good idea, we launched the website January 1, 2006 and have been pleased with the response from renters and landlords. However, we aren't done yet and won't be done until finding a pet friendly place to live (or vacation) isn't a headache anymore.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why aren't there any listings in my state?
Doghouseproperties.com is concentrating our growth in the Southeast, where the highest vacancy rates are. If we aren't in your state yet, we certainly plan on offering listings soon. Create an account and we will notify you as soon as properties are added in your area.

How long are the rental listings valid for?
Residence rentals (which include long-term apartments, homes, condos, and townhomes) are valid for 4 months. Apartment complexes listings are valid for 12 months. Vacation Rentals are also valid for 12 months. We send property owners periodic email reminders that their property listing is expiring at certain intervals.

Do you list apartment rentals or just vacation rentals?
Both. We allow property owners to list both long term rentals and vacation rentals. They will designate whether it is a long-term rental or vacation rental when the listing is created. Also, click on the "advanced search" bone to specify your search criteria as residence, vacation, or apartment complex.

I accidentally deactivated my listing (or ad). What do I do?
Email (info@doghouseproperties.com) or Contact Us with the property information (or ad info) that you accidentally deactivated. If the deactivation occured during your 4 month Featured Listing period (long term residences), or the 12 month period (for apartment complexes, vacation rentals, and affiliate ads), Doghouse Properties will gladly reactivate it for you.

What are affiliates?
Affiliates are companies that advertise their business or service on doghouseproperties.com and offer promotions or discounts to our users. We appreciate their business, as they keep our lights on and allow us to offer our services to both property owners and renters for free. Don't forget to click to support our affiliates.

Who are Cody & Havana?
Cody & Havana are the founding dogs behind doghouseproperties.com. Long story short, we had the hardest time finding a decent apartment to rent because we had Cody, our 85 lbs Labrador retriever. If it wasn't for them, we would never have realized how difficult it is to be a pet owner looking for a place to rent.
